Frequently Asked Questions About Edibles

What are cannabis edibles?

Cannabis edibles are foods infused with cannabis extract, a desired smoke-free option. They are a unique consumption method because there is a considerable delay in the onset of effects - anywhere from 30 minutes to upwards of an hour.

This delay is due to the digestion of the edible, which in turn creates another unique feature: the first-pass effect. When delta-9 THC is digested and goes through the liver, it is converted to the more potent 11-hydroxy THC. 11-hydroxy is five times as strong as delta-9, meaning a 10mg dose will feel closer to 50mg. With all marijuana products, but edibles especially, it is best to start low and go slow with dosing!

Why are edibles made with distillate?

Distillate is a common way to make edibles due to its potency and lack of cannabis taste.

Are edible gummies still good if they melt?

While you can technically consume melted edibles, it is not recommended, as there will be no way to ascertain the dose you are consuming.

To prevent this from happening, MÜV partnered with Wana to produce award-winning Soft Chews. These gummy-like edibles are made with pectin to provide a soft, delectable texture - and, using pectin ensures the chews will remain solid up to 175°F, an imperative trait, particularly during Florida summers!

How much should I take for first time edibles?

Edibles are an outlier in marijuana consumption methods due to the first-pass effect. When delta-9 THC passes through the liver, it is converted to 11-hydroxy THC, a compound five times more potent than the former.

Due to this conversion, it’s recommended to start with a low dose. 2.5mg (or ¼ of a piece of MÜV Chocolates) is ideal for those brand-new to cannabis. 5mg is recommended for those with some experience. If, after 90 minutes, you have not achieved the effects you seek, add another small dose.

Do edibles work less on a full stomach?

It is always recommended to consume edibles on a full stomach. THC and CBD are fat-soluble compounds, meaning, there must be some fats present in order for them to break down fully to enter the bloodstream. Eating edibles on a full stomach may also make the onset of effects more predictable.

What kind of edibles do dispensaries sell?

The Florida Department of Health (DOH) issued rules to Florida's MMTCs, allowing edibles in baked goods, chocolate, gelatin (gummy), drink powder and lozenge forms. There are a few special guidelines for edibles production:

  • Edibles may not be colored
  • Edibles cannot resemble any candy on the market
  • Each piece cannot exceed 10mg THC; total package cannot exceed 200mg THC
  • Cannot have sprinkles or toppings
  • Chocolates cannot contain caramel, nougat, marshmallow or any other added ingredients
  • Cannot have any design imprinted on the edible besides the mandated THC symbol

Will chocolate edibles melt?

Chocolate edibles will melt! Always be sure to store chocolates in a cool place.

Is sativa or indica better for edibles?

The lineage of edibles is very much dependent on each person’s needs. Some patients prefer the uplifting effects associated with sativas to power through the day, while others are in need of the relaxing, sedating effects associated with indicas.

Do edibles make your eyes red?

Yes, edibles can make your eyes red. This is caused by cannabinoids’ increasing blood pressure when cannabis is first consumed. After a few minutes, blood pressure goes back down. As it goes down, capillaries dilate - including the capillaries in your eyes, causing the red, bloodshot appearance associated with consuming marijuana.

How do sativa edibles make you feel?

Sativa strains are associated with cerebral, uplifting and energizing effects. Patients report these same effects from sativa edibles.

What is the difference between Indica and Sativa edibles?

“Indica” and “sativa” are the most common ways to describe cannabis effects. Sativas are associated with uplifting, energizing effects, while indicas are known to provide relaxing, sedating effects. The difference in these effects is not whether the strain is indica or sativa, but instead what terpenes are present.

Most edibles are not strain-specific and instead contain THC distillate. Edibles that are strain-specific will be indicated on the product packaging.

How long do Wana edibles last?

Wana marijuana edibles provide effects that last ~4-8 hours.

What edibles does MÜV carry?

MÜV produces three edibles:

  • MÜV Chocolates and Dark Chocolates, inspired by Belgian chocolatiers and perfected to provide a creamy, delicious medicating session. Chocolates are 10mg THC total per piece, and are segmented for easy dosing at 5mg. Chocolates are not strain-specific.
  • MÜV Lozenges are a fruit-forward hard candy that boasts sublingual activation for potentially faster-acting effects. Lozenges occur in three flavors: Orange (10mg THC per piece), Green Apple (10mg THC per piece) and Wildberry (5mg THC:5mg CBD per piece). Lozenges are not strain-specific.
  • Wana Soft Chews are pectin-based gummy-like edibles. Infused with terpenes in addition to cannabinoids, Soft Chews are MÜV’s only strain-specific edible. Mango Sativa provides 10mg THC per piece; Watermelon Hybrid provides 10mg THC; Strawberry Lemonade Hybrid provides 5mg THC:5mg CBD per piece; Blueberry Indica provides 10mg THC.
