Celebrate 420 with MÜV Marijuana Deals

By Danyal Swan September 25, 2021

It’s no secret that 4/20 is kind of a big deal in the marijuana world. What started as a codeword for a group of high schoolers to “spark one” after school has slowly become as symbolic of cannabis usage as fan leaves. Consuming the plant is a huge piece of the holiday, but today’s April 20th celebrations have taken on a new meaning.

Codewords were absolutely necessary for cannabis users up until about a decade ago, 420 itself is evidence of this. Marijuana was and is, after all, labeled a Schedule 1 drug by the Drug Enforcement Agency, leaving those using it for medical or recreational purposes resorting to using marijuana street names like weed, ganja, skunk, chronic or dope. But the need for slang words for weed are behind us.

While it’s hard to pinpoint the exact time the tide began to shift, it certainly has much to do with the success of medical marijuana programs. The anecdotal success stories that were whispered between fellow cannabis proponents were now in the spotlight, and effectively solidified themselves there with CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Sanjay Gupta’s documentary Weed, which highlighted the immense success a girl named Charlotte Figi found with CBD oil. While it’s easy to dismiss someone touting the benefits of cannabis as “just a stoner,” there is no denying a child’s relief from intractable seizures.

And then came the legalization of recreational cannabis in Colorado and Washington state in November of 2012, which turned that tidal shift into a tidal wave of support. Crime did not go up as opponents suggested, nor did the youth’s use of marijuana (in fact, youth frequency of use went down by 16% in both states). And, to boot, both states have seen their state income increase by nearly a billion (if not billions of) dollars, funding essential infrastructure and local programs. The marijuana market is booming, leaving businessmen and women alike no longer turning their nose up at the plant, but instead wondering how they can invest in the lucrative businesses now abounding.

It’s safe to say the smoke curtain has dissipated. 4/20 is no longer a codeword for pro-marijuana persons to say, hoping someone in the vicinity will answer the call. Instead, 4/20 is a day of celebration and education. A day to commemorate the immense amount we have learned about the plant (and are still learning!); the successes people have found with cannabis that were not able to find with traditional pharmaceuticals; and a day to proudly educate as to why you are a proponent of marijuana.

But what is 420 without marijuana promotions?
